3 Day Military Diet

I'm not usually one to get caught up in new "fad" diets but I decided to give this one a try. (I figured if I could have ice cream on a diet and still loose up to 10 lbs in three days it was worth a shot!) I did some reading up on it and there are mixed reviews which I will discuss but first: the diet

Day 1
Breakfast- 1/2 grapefruit, 1 Slice of toast with 2tbsp Peanut Butter, 1 cup coffee or tea
Lunch- 1/2 cup of Tuna, 1 slice Toast, coffee or tea
Dinner- 3oz of meat, 1 cup Green Beans, 1/2 banana, 1 small apple, and 1 cup vanilla ice cream

Day 2
Breakfast- 1 egg, 1 slice of toast, 1/2 banana
Lunch- 1 cup cottage cheese, 1 hard boiled egg, 5 Saltine crackers
Dinner- 2 hot dogs (no buns), 1 cup broccoli, 1/2 cup carrots, 1/2 banana, 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream

Day 3
Breakfast- 5 Saltines, 1 slice of cheddar cheese, 1 small apple
Lunch- 1 hard boiled egg, 1 slice of toast
Dinner- 1 cup tuna, 1/2 banana, 1 cup vanilla ice cream

Salt and pepper are ok, no other additions. No substitutions. Drink lots of water. You can alternate 3 days on 4 days off, 3 days on until you reach your goal weight.

That's what you're supposed to do. Sounds pretty good right? I can't follow it exactly for one reason: Dry tuna is NASTY. So I modified it. 1 tsp of mayo and 1 tsp of mustard and it was edible. Mom also brought home delicious cheese spread that we never buy so I also added 2 saltines with 1 tsp cheese spread to my lunch. I made up for that by doing an hour long workout class at the Kroc Center though..... I also slightly modify the toast with a tsp of butter. Who wants to eat dry toast? Or dry tuna?  Still, even with my modifications I lost 1 1/2 lbs already!

Anyway, some people claim this diet is not enough calories and that you are essentially starving yourself, which means the weight will come back once you get off the diet. Others said that it works great and is not dangerous or unhealthy and that as long as you don't go crazy afterwards and eat humongous portions, the weight should stay off. . I decided to would go ahead and try it. I am currently on day 2 and everything seems to be going great. I am drinking more water than I usually do but I didn't drink enough to begin with so that's not a bad thing! I haven't felt like I am starving myself at all. What's hard is watching my family eat cheesy garlic bread with spaghetti sauce while I sit in the corner telling myself that I LOVE hot dogs..... (I did end up snagging one bite off of the cheesy bread. SO worth it!) So, even with the little bit of cheating I did I still lost weight! Seems like a pretty good diet to me!

  2. i am warning you from a first hand experiece do NOT follow through with this diet unless you don't have anything to do or you're just desperate. i started this on saturday and from saturday to sunday i lost 4 pounds which was great. i exercised for an hour on saturday and sunday i went on an hour hike. i went to the movies with my boyfriend and half way through the movie i got really dizzy, woozy and almost passed out if i didn't have water with me. i couldn't make it through the night without eating or else i wouldve gotten really sick. i stopped after the second day because i tracked my calorie intake on myfitnesspal.com and everything together is BARELY 800 calories! it's ridiculous and it made me ill, DO NOT DO THIS

    2. I am on day 3 with only 1 meal left and I have not gotten sick once. If anything, this diet has taught me how often I reach for food. It's out of control!

    3. I agree with Sherry. This diet has made me realize how psychological my food consumption is. I was completely full all day yesterday, the second day of the diet, but I messed up last night just because I felt like eating a cupcake. Oh well, I still lost two pounds, and I'm back on it today. I don't know if I should just continue on with Day 3 as if nothing happened?

    4. This is definitely not a diet to follow if you are going to be exercising hard. It is very low in calories in order to lose the most amount of weight in the shortest amount of time.

    6. I am one day 1 and unfortunately I do indeed feel sick. However, I believe it's a mind thing because for the last week i was already on a 1200 calorie diet so i plan on sticking with it.

  3. I am on Day 1 and I feel just fine. No headaches, no dizziness and no problems at all!! I did use an app (myfitnesspal.com) to figure the total calories for Day 1 - 1424 total calories. (I did add a tablespoon of peanut butter for a portion of my toast for lunch and I did eat about 4 oz. of cottage cheese at lunch also.) I am excited to see what the results will be. If they are good then I will continue until I reach my goal weight! *I do a cardio workout 5 days a week and strength train 3 days a week.
*I drink a lot of water everyday so thats not a problem.*I did have tea this morning and at lunch. Good Luck to everyone!

  4. I am on Day 2, I have actually felt great throughout all this. The first day I lost 3lbs. I have a job that requires me to be somewhat fit. (Climb Ladders, Crawl in attics and crawl spaces, dig holes) but I normally dont have the energy to work out. The past two days I have found the extra energy to do a light work out 3x a day.
I feel a little woozy sometimes but it feels more like I'm detoxing from all the crap I normally would eat.

  5. I am on day three of the military diet, but I could not wait till the morning of the fourth day to weigh in, so I cheated and weighed myself this morning. I was down 7 lbs. this is working for me. I have not felt bad at all. U=I would have to say that the 3rd day is the toughest! But Im hanging in there counting the hours till i get out of work to go and eat the tuna and ice cream. I do plan on doing a blog, because I did stick to the diet but got a bit creative and I would love to share it with everyone. Good Luck to all and God Bless You!
